13th Annual Fishing Derby to be Held This Weekend
Anonymous writes "Hey Kids! Grab a fishing pole and some bait
and come to the 13th Annual Kids Fishing Derby hosted by the Wayne National
Forest Athens Ranger District-Marietta Unit on Saturday, June 14th at the Leith
Run Recreation Area.
The event offers free fishing for children 16 and under
on the Ohio River. Registration starts at 8:30am and fishing starts at 9:00am
and concludes at 11am. Catfish, bass and drum are among the fish kids may pull
out of the river. Lunch begins at 11am. Prizes for sportsmanship, the biggest
fish caught and for a casting contest, which includes five different age groups,
will be handed out from 12 till 1pm. Prizes range from tackle boxes to fishing
rods.

OHIOANS CAN FISH FOR FREE MAY 3-4
COLUMBUS,
OH - Ohioans are encouraged to take advantage of "Free Fishing Days" on
Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 to experience the great angling
opportunities Ohio has to offer. For these two days only, anglers may
fish any of the state's public waters without a license.
"Fishing is a great opportunity for the family to get outdoors
together," said David M.Graham, chief of the Ohio Department of Natural
Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. "Ohio's many lakes and rivers
offer some of the best fishing anywhere."

American Chestnut Tree Planted on Wayne National Forest
NELSONVILLE, OH – (April
11) For the first time on the Wayne National
Forest, hundreds of American Chestnut seedlings are taking root in southeast
Ohio thanks to a partnership between researchers, forestry organizations and
volunteers that are working to restore the once dominant tree to its natural
habitat.
Workers and volunteers from the Wayne National Forest; The American Chestnut
Foundation, Ohio Chapter; Ohio University, Department of Environmental and Plant
Biology; and researchers from the U.S. Forest Research Lab in Delaware, Ohio
recently planted more than 100 disease-resistant American Chestnut seedlings on
a reclaimed strip mine site on the National Forest; with plans to plant up to
600 more throughout the spring.

Consolidating the 7th and 8th Grades?
After spending millions of dollars to build the new schools at
Matamoras and Newport, there has been talk by the Frontier School Board
about consolidating all the 7th and 8th grades to the high school in
order to save money. The subject is to be voted on at the School Board
meeting on Thursday at the high school.

TIME TO PURCHASE OHIO HUNTING AND FISHING LICENSES
COLUMBUS,
OH - Anglers and hunters are reminded that it's time to purchase
2008-2009 fishing and hunting licenses. The 2007-08 licenses expire
February 29. New licenses can be purchased at vendor outlets across the
state and at wildohio.com on the Internet after February 15, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
